Show Transcript WHERE 31-YEAR-OLD DEPUTY ADAM GIBSON AND 5-YEAR-OLD K-9 RILEY WERE SHOT. INVESTIGATORS SAY A LITTLE AFTER 10:00 P.M. LAST NIGHT, DEPUTIES NOTICED A CAR IN A PARKING LOT THAT LOOKED LIKE ONE INVOLVED IN A SERIES OF BURGLARIES. WHEN DEPUTIES TRIED TO TALK WITH THE DRIVER, THEY LEARNED HE WAS ON PAROLE, AND WHEN THEY TRIED TO SEARCH THE CAR, INVESTIGATORS SAY THE MAN DROVE OFF, LEADING DEPUTIES ON A CHASE TO TO CAL EX OTHER DEPUTIES ARRIVED TO HELP AND ORDERED THE MAN OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. HE REFUSED. THE DEPUTIES SENT BEAN BAG SHOTS INTO THE CAR. SEVERAL SHOTS WERE FIRED FROM INSIDE THE CAR. DEPUTY GIBSON, K-9 RILEY AND ANOTHER DEPUTY WERE HIT. The man who died after shooting and killing a deputy and K9 officer has been identified.
On Monday night, deputies tried pulling over Robert Stephen Calderon, who was on parole, at Arden Way near Morse Avenue. He stopped, then drove off, prompting a chase. Calderon eventually crashed his car near the horse track at Cal Expo. Deputies shot out Calderon s back window before deploying a K9, but Calderon opened fire, killing K9 Riley and Deputy Adam Gibson. Deputies returned fire and Calderon died from the shooting.
