Wooster-Wayne DAR chapter recognizes this year s high school Good Citizens

Submitted A Wooster High School senior was selected as this year s Wooster-Wayne Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution s top Good Citizen. Lena Wiebe, daughter of Mareike Herrmann, received a plaque and a scholarship. Her name will be added to a trophy that is displayed at the winner’s high school until next year’s Good Citizen is chosen. Part of the Good Citizen competition is an essay. Included in hers, Wiebe said: “Every step forward this country has taken has been the result of dedicated, caring citizens who want their government to represent them. The United States was founded by small bands of patriots who wanted their voice to be heard.

Daughters of the American Revolution Regent Robbin Christman reported 95 wreaths were sponsored for Wreaths Across American by the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, which met Jan. 9 via zoom. She suggested the club continue the project another year, and asked for suggestions for other programs to support veterans. Cheryl Abernathy reported OneEighty, a women’s and children shelter, received the My Bag items and bags for children who are taken in. Since this is a continuous project, DAR members will continue to collect personal items and bags until OneEighty indicates it needs more. Suggested items to collect are stuffed animals, puzzles, books, activity books and toys.

MP chooses Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy pupil as Christmas card competition winner

MARGET Howatson, a year seven pupil at Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy, has won Aberconwy MP Robin Millar’s Christmas card competition. The competition was open to all schools in Conwy and its aim was to give the opportunity for entrants to draw, paint, be creative and make a card design that illustrates what Christmas is all about. Robin said: For millions of people over thousands of years, around the world, the Christian message at Christmas, of peace on earth and goodwill to all has brought hope. “Marget has captured that message in her imaginative bright and cheerful card which sums up exactly where we as a nation are at Christmas 2020. Her simple but joyful message of “love, hope and social distancing” is perfect.”
