LUMBERTON The Grinch, controversial star of a children’s book and several movies, was arrested Sunday night after trying to steal presents from beneath the Christmas tree in Lumberton City Hall.
Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins apprehended the green-hued suspect with the aid of four members of the department’s SWAT team. Although the Grinch has been described as a bad banana, he surrendered without incident, according to surveillance video.
The Grinch, whose last known address was Mount Crumpit, near Whoville, was charged with stealing gifts, intruding on a good Christmas carol and for just being “a mean one.”
“This has been a difficult year for us all, and in an attempt to bring smiles to faces across our county, we decided to put forth an effort to catch the Grinch,” Sheriff Wilkins said.
