BEST-SELLING crime writer Peter James is giving money from sales of his latest book to a charity which supports police officers. Peter is best-known for his thrillers about Brighton detective Roy Grace, recently turned into a hit TV drama. Now he and his publishing company Pan Macmillan have decided to give the Sussex Police Charitable Trust £3 from every sale of Left You Dead made at City Books in Western Road, Hove. The trust helps police officers, staff, special constables, pensioners and family members when they are in need. It gives advice and provides financial support. “It has been a great ride,” says Peter, “way, way beyond my wildest dreams. I thought I might do maybe two books, and then with Dead Simple people started speculating about what happened to (Grace’s missing wife) Sandy and I started thinking I could have some fun with this. I can’t believe I have now started writing the 18th Roy Grace book.
“I just really enjoy it. I am brimming with ideas.”

In less straitened times the hubbub could’ve been mistaken for a hen-party booking but hotels aren’t yet open and, according to a couple of Stylers, this was the real deal. It was Harry.
Peter James latest book Where are they? Some may have run away and changed their identities, perhaps to escape debts, or sadly committed suicide and their bodies never found. I remember asking a police officer if there is such thing as a perfect murder and he said: Absolutely. They re the ones we never hear about . These are the hardest cases to investigate for police - when they don t have hard proof of a body. And that s how this story starts. Left You Dead begins with a Brighton couple arguing over cat litter. On a Sunday drive near Steyning, Niall and Eden Paternoster stop outside the Tesco at Holmbush so Eden can collect the cat litter Niall has forgotten to buy.
