AFTER the trials of the last 15 months, during which many people have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help employers keep the show on the road, a little recognition for staff would surely go a long way. The fall-out from the pandemic has sadly meant many companies have failed, while others, amid ongoing restrictions, are hanging on to their survival by a thread. But there are many businesses which have prospered, perhaps because of the digital nature of their models that ensured they thrived during lockdown, or at the very least have kept their operations on an even keel.
A TOWN councillor feels a new social media policy brought in by the council is an attempt to “gag” certain members. Edwin Dinsdale, who represents Corkickle South on Whitehaven Town Council, made the comments during a meeting on Thursday. The policy bans councillors from “engaging in online fights and personal attacks”, as well as “posting controversial or inflammatory remarks”. They also must not “present themselves in a way that might cause embarrassment to the council”. Speaking at the meeting, Mr Dinsdale said: “I’m strongly against this. As far as I’m concerned, it’s an attempt for this council to gag certain councillors around their online activity.
