A man who was charged in the 2018 death of Round Rock police officer Charles Whites died Friday in the hospital after his family took him off life support, Round Rock police said.
Raul Ramos Martinez, who was in his late 60s, struck Whites before dawn on Feb. 25, 2018, while Whites was directing traffic on Interstate 35 around the scene of a pedestrian death, investigators have said.
Martinez was charged with intoxication assault and manslaughter with a vehicle. Martinez had taken twice the prescribed amount of gabapentin a drug used for seizures before he hit Whites, his arrest affidavit says.
Martinez had been incarcerated since his arrest.
