At the same time, the number of coronavirus hospitalizations here did not change, remaining at its lowest level this year. As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, 1,760 Staten Islanders are believed to have died from complications related to the coronavirus.

An unknown perpetrator shot the man in the right hand near 151 Jersey St., an NYPD spokesman said, and the victim later arrived at Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton by private means. The man is likely to survive, police said.

A return to prison awaits a felon from St. George who was accused of shooting and wounding another man inside a West Brighton home last year. Kasim Caughman, 32, has pleaded guilty to second-degree assault to resolve charges stemming from the violent incident on Feb. 18, 2020. The events unfolded at about 10:35 p.m. inside a residence on Barker Street near Castleton Avenue, according to police and a criminal complaint.
