Emergency personnel responded to a call for a motor vehicle accident at 4:22 p.m. in the vicinity of Edgewater Street and Hylan Boulevard, according to an FDNY spokesman. One person was transported to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, the spokesman said. The condition of the patient or any further details were not immediately available Tuesday night.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) hospitalizations on Staten Island continued a slow uptick Tuesday as 278 new positive cases were reported across the borough. City Health Department data published Tuesday at 1 p.m. also showed 1,188 borough residents are believed to have succumbed to the disease, which was unmoved from yesterday’s total. However, confirmed deaths dropped from 994 on Monday to 980 on Tuesday, the data showed a decrease of 14. Meanwhile, “probable” deaths increased by 14 from 194 on Monday to 208. A death is classified as “probable” if the decedent was a city resident who had no known positive laboratory test for the coronavirus, but the death certificate lists “COVID-19” or an equivalent as a cause of death.

It happened Tuesday, December 8 at 4:10 a.m. at the deli on Forest Avenue in West Brighton. Police say the person sprayed the pepper spray right into the face of the 53-year-old cashier, then removed the cash register before running away on Hart Avenue. The victim suffered pain and redness to his eyes. He was treated at Richmond University Medical Center where he was later released.
