The Greater New York Hospital Association has launched an intensive care unit cross-training initiative for independent safety-net hospitals aimed at strengthening the city s health care delivery system, the organization told
Crain s Thursday.
The association will provide critical care training to non-ICU physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, it said, with the goal of supporting internal capacity for another surge of Covid-19 patients and other emergencies.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. A 37-year-old man from the Bronx assaulted two police officers at Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, authorities allege.
Richard Rodriguez, of Faile Street, is accused in the incident on Tuesday at about 2:10 a.m. at the hospital at 355 Bard Ave., according to the criminal complaint and police.
The suspect, who stands about 5′11″ tall and weighs about 190 pounds, was under police watch at the hospital following an arrest for allegedly violating an order of protection. Rodriguez punched a male officer in the face, causing the cop to hit his head against a wall, according to the criminal complaint.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. “The chase for staffing help for Staten Island’s hospitals is on again,” said Borough President James Oddo, as Staten Island’s health care systems see a surge of coronavirus (COVID-19) hospitalizations reaching levels not seen since the spring.
As of Wednesday morning, 244 people were being treated for COVID-19 within the borough’s two hospital systems, which represented an increase of 10 since Tuesday and a rise of 69 since Dec. 1.
