Could Live PD be coming back to Richland County?

The Richland County Sheriff s Department might be ready for the bright lights of television again. According to a story in a local West Columbia online newspaper, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott told the Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber at a breakfast Tuesday that the department could be on Live PD once again.   When WLTX reached out to the Sheriff s Department for more information, one of the public information officers confirmed that the department is in negotiations with Live PD about reappearing on the show, but nothing is firm.

(Screenshot via Twitter) A white Fort Jackson soldier charged in connection with an April 12th altercation with a Black man will be prosecuted by the civilian justice system before the military justice system gets involved, the South Carolina post’s commanding general said Friday. Sgt. First Class Jonathan Pentland, the Army non-commissioned officer shown confronting a Black man walking in his Columbia, S.C., neighborhood in a viral video, was charged with third-degree assault and has been suspended from all instructor duties. The charge is a misdemeanor, and Pentland faces a fine of not more than five hundred dollars, thirty days imprisonment, or both.

On Friday, Attorney General Alan Wilson and Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott held a news conference encouraging South Carolinians to go by one of several drop off sites Saturday to drop off unused prescription medications. Officials say the event can prevent dangerous medications from ending up in the wrong hands. Last year South Carolinians dropped off more than 11,000 pounds of medications. A white Fort Jackson soldier seen in a video pushing and yelling at a young Black man in a northeast Columbia neighborhood has been criminally charged, according to the Richland County Sheriff s Department. The incident took place in the Summit neighborhood, a sprawling community located between Clemson and Hardscrabble roads. At an evening news conference, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott identified the man charged as Jonathan Pentland, 42. Deputies charged him with third-degree assault and battery.
