SPD offers free collision avoidance training to young drivers

Submitted In an effort to improve the driving abilities and overall safety of younger drivers, the Sevierville Police Department has scheduled a free 12-hour Collision Avoidance Training (CAT) class from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 16, at the Sevierville Police Department and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at the Sevierville Convention Center. The training is for drivers aged 16-20 years old who have a valid driver’s license (participants are required to provide their own vehicle and have current insurance). The seminar is taught by SPD officers utilizing a nationally proven program. The class is free. Registration is limited. For more information or to register contact Lt. A FAIFLEY woman has embarked on a 96-mile challenge to raise money for a mental health charity. Kayleigh Morrison, 30, is completing a virtual West Highland Way walk in aid of the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH). Due to Covid restrictions, Kayleigh is covering the miles locally, with the support of her fiancée, Rebecca Cowan. Her initial fundraising target of £100 has already been met, with her Just Giving page sitting at just over £300. Kayleigh said: “I heard a radio advert about a walk happening to raise money for a mental health charity, but it was only England and Wales so I decided to find a Scottish one.
