Police: Shootings at Santa Fe station isolated incident

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) Two Santa Fe-area men shot, one fatally, at a commuter rail station were apparently known to the shooter or shooters and investigators were trying to locate a car seen in the area, a police official said Tuesday.
Police Capt. Anthony Tapia said David Hernandez, 24, was the man killed Monday while the victim who remained hospitalized in critical condition was a 38-year-old man whose name was not released.
The vehicle of interest a gray or silver small sedan, possibly a Nissan or Hyundai was seen in the area with two occupants at about the time of the shootings, Tapia said. ”We’re not ready to call them suspects at this point.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Federal regulators have certified that the New Mexico Rail Runner Express has met a year-end deadline to install a federally required safety system on the state-owned passenger service.
The Positive Train Control System is designed to prevent train collisions, high-speed derailments and incursions into track work zones.
The passenger service’s operator, the Rio Metro Regional Transit District, began installing the $60 million system on the 100-mile (161-kilometer) route between Santa Fe and Belen south of Albuquerque in April 2019.
In addition to Rail Runner commuter trains, the route is also used by Amtrak long-distance passenger trains and Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight trains.
