Reading High School prom leads to cluster of COVID-19 cases, return to remote learning

View Comments Several Reading students are back to remote learning this week after the district learned of new cases of COVID-19. Reading High School’s prom, which was held at the Sharonville Convention Center on April 23, is now believed to be where the recent cluster of COVID-19 cases started. Jason Enix, the superintendent for Reading Community City Schools, says they followed all of the protocols from the state. “We rented out that space so that we could meet the capacity restriction requirement of the state of Ohio, which is 25 percent of indoor capacity. We were well under that,” said Enix.

Reading Community City Schools go remote Feb 1

Enix told parents the outbreak is widespread. Student illnesses and severity are on the rise, and quarantines/close contacts account for over 25% of our in-person student population, Enix said. As of Friday, the district reported 14 confirmed or probable cases of the virus, 177 quarantines and 174 exposures in the student population. Two staff members are said to be probable cases, six others are quarantined and 23 have been exposed, Enix said.
