Juniata County officials discuss service grants | News, Sports, Jobs

bkreitzer@lewistownsentinel.com Mifflintown – During a brief meeting Tuesday the Juniata County commissioners ratified the receipt of the Juniata County Rights and Services Act (RASA) and Victims of Juvenile Offenders (VOJO) Services Grant application sub-grant in the amount of $79,144.00 as submitted by Sylvia Middaugh, Victim Witness Program Coordinator. Bucks County opening Neshaminy Mall COVID clinic amid calls for more doses

Now, for the uncertain news.  The county wants to open a site planned at the St. Luke s Quakertown Campus, and a sixth site soon in Central or Lower Bucks to offer at least 15,000 vaccinations a week. The county also wants to meet Gov. Wolf s ambitious plan of scheduling all 1A vaccine appointments by March 28.  But without enough vaccine or a predictable flow, it simply cannot, county leaders said Monday.  Like the governor, we share the frustrations of residents who have waited many weeks in vain for a vaccination appointment,  Bucks County commissioners said in a statement. But just scheduling a date does not assure when the vaccine will be there for them.

Bucks Law Department saves on outside billing, new solicitor says

Bucks County saved $400,000 in legal fees to outside law firms last year, county Solicitor Joe Khan reported to the county commissioners last week.              Appointed in January 2020, Khan said that he was given a directive by the newly elected, Democrat-controlled commissioner board to bring down the legal fees that the county was paying to outside law firms. When he was hired as solicitor last year from his work as a Philadelphia and federal prosecutor, the choice seemed puzzling. Weren t there enough lawyers in Bucks from which the newly installed Democrats could choose?  But Khan, an adjunct professor at Penn Law, has brought legal skills he himself learned from a young law professor who would go on to do some serious service for the country.
