A man in his 30s is the seventh resident of Renfrew County and district to die as a result of COVID-19.
The Renfrew County and District Health Unit reported the death May 12, in addition to eight new positive cases of the virus and one more resolved case.

According to the Province of Ontario website, the male contracted COVID May 5 and the case was reported May 9 following a laboratory confirmed positive test.

This morning (May 11), the Renfrew County and District COVID-19 Vaccine Communications Committee announced a further expansion of eligible groups who can book vaccination appointments. The expansion helps keep the Renfrew County and District Health Unit in line with the provincial vaccination eligibility groups.

Despite increased numbers in hospitalizations for COVID-positive patients in Renfrew County and district (RCD), strict safety procedures are ensuring that our region’s hospitals remain safe for all who need hospital-based health care.
“Throughout the pandemic, COVID-19 has caused some serious delays in the treatment of other urgent medical problems, primarily out of fear of the virus and concern that other patients may be at risk if they attend hospitals that have COVID-positive patients in their care,” said Dr. Rob Cushman, acting medical officer of health for the Renfrew County and District Health Unit, in a release issued Tuesday morning, May 11.

The Renfrew County and District Health Unit is reporting 19 new positive cases of COVID-19 today.
This is an increase of 27 cases since the May 6 case summary (May 8 and 9 – three cases each, May 7 – two cases). With 17 additional cases considered resolved in the same timeframe, there are 47 active cases – six people in hospital and 41 individuals self-isolating, according to the May 10 updated case summary. Overall 592 of the total 645 cases are considered resolved with six deaths attributed to the virus.

There are five current COVID-19 outbreaks in Renfrew County and district after the health unit declared two more outbreaks late Thursday afternoon.
On May 6, the Renfrew County and District Health Unit confirmed COVID-19 outbreaks at a private day care in Whitewater Region and Mobility Lab in Arnprior. To date, three individuals at the day care received positive laboratory-confirmed cases of novel coronavirus 2019 with the potential for more cases to come, according to a health unit release. The day care voluntarily closed on April 28 and remains closed until further notice.
