ALBANY The lights flashed red and blue behind him as Daniel Hernandez was driving his truck home from an auto garage.
A Catskill police officer pulled Hernandez over in February 2020, allegedly for having a loud exhaust, according to the immigrant advocacy group Columbia County Sanctuary Movement. Questions from police about his car turned into questions about his immigration status, and when the officer suspected Hernandez was undocumented, he took him to the station in handcuffs, holding him until U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrived to detain him.

A Valatie man faces new charges in a child sex abuse investigation.
The Rensselaer County Sheriff Department said Heath E. Harrison, 46, was charged after new information developed in the case involving sexual abuse of a child in Schodack.
Harrision was charged with three counts of sexual abuse, two counts each of predatory sexual assault against a child and criminal sex act, as well as felony rape and several misdemeanors for incidents that occurred between April 1, 2018 and May 30, 2018, the sheriff’s office said.
Harrison, who was out on bail for related charges in both Rensselaer and Columbia counties, was arraigned in Schodack town court on Monday. He was sent to Rensselaer county jail on $50,000 bail.
SCHODACK, N.Y. â A Valatie man is facing additional charges in light of new information brought forward in a sex abuse case being probed by the Rensselaer County Sheriffâs Office.
Heath E. Harrison, 46, is being charged in three additional incidents involving sexual contact with a minor, all of which were reported to have happened in the Town of Schodack.
Harrison was charged with felony predatory sexual assault against a child, felony first-degree criminal sex act 1st (B Felony), felony first-degree sexual abuse, misdemeanor, sexual misconduct, and misdemeanor forcible touching, for incidents alleged to have occurred between April 1, 2018, through April 30, 2018.
