Beginning Monday, April 5, 2021, Chatham County will be opening up public facilities that have stayed closed throughout the entire pandemic. These will include the County Libraries, Parks and Recreation facilities, and the Chatham County Agriculture and Conference Center.
Building capacity is not to exceed more than 50 people at one time, per NC Executive Order 204 issued by Governor Roy Cooper on March 23rd. Everyone utilizing the facilities is still expected to wear masks and practice social distancing.
“I am grateful that our departments have continued to adapt and find creative ways to serve the public during this challenging year, and we appreciate the community’s patience,” said Chatham County Manager Dan LaMontagne. “As the state eases restrictions, we look forward to interacting with community members and offering the in-person customer service that we have all missed over the last year.”

Randolph County Schools have been opened since August last year, but the school administration and staff are struggling to find more teachers to contact trace COVID exposures when other teachers are quarantining themselves.
Contact tracing is a process that identifies, monitors, and supports individuals who may have been exposed to COVID.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, case investigation and contact tracing are essential interventions in a successful response to COVID. They should be implemented as schools return to in-person learning.
Under H.R. 6666, the CDC would award grants for testing, contact tracing, and monitoring to address COVID. Under H.B. 1043 signed last May, $25,000,000 went to the Department of Health and Human Services to expand public and private COVID testing and contracting plans.
