RUSSELL The Tri-State Narcotics Task Force was at it again over the weekend, bringing five suspects into custody on various warrants, including drug distribution.
This is the second round of weekend busts, which have so far netted a quarter-pound of meth, smaller gram amounts of heroin, fentanyl and weed, $8,600 in cash, a vehicle and drug paraphernalia, according to DEA Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jack Sparks.
So far, eight people have been caught up in the dragnet, Sparks said.
Spanning Boyd and Greenup counties, drug officers assigned with the detail seized a mess of meth baggies, scales and cash, according to a release issued early Sunday morning.

On July 4 at 7:04 a.m., a group of runners began the 7.4-mile Freedom Run from Raceland to the Greenup War Memorial and back. The runners were escorted by the Raceland Police Department. They were decked in red, white and blue with American and POW/MIA Flags over their shoulders as they made their way down 23.
ASHLAND The Tri-State Narcotics Task Force announced Friday that a West Virginia man wanted since March has been apprehended on Carter Avenue, according to a news release.
RUSSELL Another DEA-led investigation at the Russell Best Western led to an arrest Thursday of two suspects during a burglary in progress.
While performing a narcotics operation at the hotel, officers with the Tri-State Narcotics Team and the Russell PD spotted two suspects entering a room known to be out of service, according to a news release.
The two suspects, 33-year-old Megan Brewer, of London, and 33-year-old Michael D. Adkins-Jenkins were arrested and charged with second-degree burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia. Adkins-Jenkins was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and identity theft, while Brewer faces additional an additional charge of third-degree possession of Gabapentin.
