Rochester City Council President Won t Seek Re-election

Jan 29, 2021 Rochester City Council President Loretta Scott says she s not running for re-election, saying in a statement that she will retire at the end of her term. Scott will have served 12 years on council by then. She was first elected in 2009 and has been council president since 2014. Prior to that she was City Parks and Recreation Commissioner for 30 years. Scott s will be the second open seat on council so far. Councilman Malik Evans has announced he s running for mayor instead of seeking re-election.

Rochester City Council President Loretta Scott Rochester City Council President Loretta Scott has announced that she will not seek reelection to her at-large seat. Her term expires at the end of the year. Scott was first elected to her Council seat in 2009, and was first elected President by her fellow Council members in 2014. She s finishing out her third term. Prior to her time on Council, Scott served as the city s commissioner of parks, recreation, and humans services, a position she retired from in 2005.  She was the first Black woman to have held a position as the head of a department in Rochester.

City Council President Loretta Scott: vaccine misinformation dangerous

Scott said the rhetoric that she has seen being spread about the vaccines is concerning and false, particularly rumors about people being harmed while the drug was tested in trials. She said these rumors are especially harmful in minority communities that have been hit hard by COVID-19. Scott also said public officials should not use their energy to make people wary of the vaccine, especially with a high number of local positive cases. She said that the public should rely on medical professionals instead of social media to get information.
