Becoming a farmer felt like a pipe dream for Ali Coakley, who grew up in Medway but not on a farm, she said. Her dad wasn t given acres of land to carry on a family tradition he was a graphic designer.
But now, nine years after first interning at a local farm in her hometown, Coakley will begin running her own in neighboring Franklin.

Fortenberry receives historical commission award
The recent Texas Historical Commission’s Real Places 2021 virtual conference brought together hundreds of individuals and organizations dedicated to protecting and preserving Texas’ historic places and the stories they tell. During the conference, the agency honored worthy recipients for accomplishments and exemplary leadership in the preservation of Texas’ heritage.
Sandy Fortenberry of the Lubbock County Historical Commission received the John Ben Shepperd County Historical Commission Leadership Award for her work as “manager, cheerleader, and collaborator” with her members to preserve the county’s history.
Lubbock County has received a Distinguished Service Award during each year of her tenure.

The social interaction and communication skills of children with autism improved significantly under a therapeutic horse riding program, researchers report.
Mengxian Zhao and her fellow researchers, reporting in the
International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, noted that many therapeutic interventions have been studied and found to be effective for certain typical behaviors in children with autism spectrum disorder, particularly in relation to social and communication skills.
Recently, there has been increasing interest in animal-assisted interventions as an effective therapy option for children with autism.
Therapeutic horse riding may have positive effects on multiple impairments in children with autism, including physical, emotional, social, cognitive, behavioral, and educational functioning.
