Brian Marone of the Rochester Police Department said that officers were called to Lyell Avenue, near Saratoga Avenue, shortly before midnight. They found a 29-year-old man was stabbed at least once in the upper body while inside an apartment on Lyell Aveune. The man, who was not identified by police, was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, Marone said. No charges have been filed in connection with the slaying, which was one of two homicides to occur Wednesday in Rochester. marks the city s 23rd homicide of 2021. Also on Wednesday, a 27-year-old Rochester man died from severe injuries he suffered two weeks earlier when he was shot multiple times while on Gladys Street.

Cameron St. shooting: Man shot identified A man was shot to death Monday morning in northwest Rochester, according to police. The slaying, Rochester s 22nd homicide of 2021, occurred on Cameron Street, just north of Lyell Avenue, Monday morning. Capt. Frank Umbrino of the Rochester Police Department said that probation officers in the area heard multiple shots fired around 9:45 a.m., rounded the corner and found the slain man near Gall Alley. Jaquan Hill, 26, of Rochester was shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene, Umbrino said.  No charges have been filed in connection with the homicide. Police are speaking with several people and are searching for the shooter, who officers believe fled the scene on foot.

Warren unveils working group proposals for Rochester police reform

Mayor Lovely Warren on Thursday released a summary of reforms to policing she hopes to see and that she is scheduled to detail in the evening during an online public forum at 7 p.m. The reforms were compiled by a working group assembled by the Warren administration in response to an executive order from Gov. Andrew Cuomo that required all municipalities to submit a plan for reforming their police departments by April 1. The proposed reforms fall into several categories, including police accountability, officer recruitment, and mental health call responses.
