Russian awaits winner of Thiem and Sonego
Seventh seed Andrey Rublev closed out the action on Pietrangeli with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 victory over 10th seed Roberto Bautista Agut on Thursday to reach his first quarter-final at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia.
It was the pair’s third meeting of the season, with Bautista Agut ending Rublev’s nine-match winning streak at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha and the Russian gaining his revenge en route to the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters final a few weeks later.
At the Foro Italico, the Russian fired 23 winners to Bautista Agut’s 12 (including five aces) to improve his ATP Head2Head record against the Spaniard to 3-3 and claim a tour-leading 29th victory (tied with Tsitsipas) of the year.
Spanish-Argentine team win fifth team title
Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos captured their third ATP Masters 1000 title on Sunday with a comeback win in the Mutua Madrid Open final.
The third seeds denied second-seeded Croatians Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic their sixth trophy of the season with a 1-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory over 73 minutes. It avenged their semi-final loss at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters last month.
The Madrid final turned in the eighth game of the second set when Pavic let slip a 40/0 lead. Granollers and Zeballos, winners of four previous team titles, didn’t need a second invitation and kept points short in the Match Tie-break.

The Serbian moves into the semi-finals
Novak Djokovic will meet 2021 s breakout star Aslan Karatsev in the Serbia Open semi-finals Saturday after both players enjoyed straight-sets quarter-final wins Friday in Belgrade.
Djokovic made quick work of fellow Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic with a 6-1, 6-3 win, moving closer to a third title at home. Later in the day, Karatsev set a replay of their Australian Open semi-final when he defeated Italian qualifier Gianluca Mager 6-3, 6-4. I think personally I m feeling very well on court, moving well, hitting the ball well and, of course, enjoying the home court advantage, Djokovic said. So I m really excited to go out in the semi-finals on the court again tomorrow.
