24 GCIT high school seniors receive college associate degrees Updated May 11, 2021; Through the ongoing partnership between Rowan College of South Jersey and the Gloucester County Institute of Technology, 24 high school students have earned their associate degrees during their senior year. GCIT students begin earning college credits as early as their sophomore year through the dual credit option and they begin to earn college credit for coursework completed while in high school. Students then take advantage of the High School Option Program. In total, GCIT students completed 7,504 credits for the 2020-2021 academic year. Among the standouts, Arshtegh Pannun will receive dual degrees and Krisha Darji was accepted into Rowan University’s 7-year (3+4) accelerated degree program in Medicine.

By innovation, I don’t always mean the type of technological innovation that we see with devices and platforms, but relatively small changes in programs and bureaucracies that lead to greater opportunities for people to succeed. The Cumberland County campus of Rowan College of South Jersey has gotten creative with payment plans. I’m also thinking about approaches taken by Valencia College in Orlando, Florida. It is fair to ask what a community college in Florida has to do with one in South Jersey. The answer is, probably not much, but the problems they face are fairly common and well known, so that new solutions implemented at one community college might be worth a try at another.
