LAHORE: Punjab Governor Ch Sarwar and Chief Minister Usman Buzdar have formally launched the corona vaccination campaign in Punjab. The government has also set up 189 centres in the province for coronavirus vaccination. The vaccination campaign has been launched in Punjab by administering vaccine to Dr Faraz and Dr Samavia Akbar of Rawalpindi Institute of Urology. On the occasion, the governor and chief minister also witnessed the vaccination process while Primary and Secondary Health secretary and officials concerned were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion of the launch of corona vaccine campaign, the governor welcomed the process of corona vaccine in Punjab and said people will be vaccinated against COVID-19 without any discrimination. RAWALPINDI: The twin cities reported two casualties and 94 new cases on Saturday.
In Rawalpindi district, one person succumbed to Covid-19 and 15 more got infected whereas one patient died and 79 people tested positive in Islamabad. No patient had reportedly recovered or been discharged from hospital.
Adeeba Majeed, 60, was brought to Ali Medical Hospital from Gujar Khan on Jan 18 where she breathed her last on Saturday morning.
On the other hand, among the new patients, 11 were from Rawalpindi city and cantonment areas, one each from Gujar Khan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir while two came from Jhelum.
According to the district administration’s data, there were 303 active patients out of whom 71 were under treatment in hospitals. As many as 471 people have yet to receive their Covid-19 test results.

RAWALPINDI: While the number of active cases and hospitalisation of Covid-19 patients has significantly dropped in the district, the chief of Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) and its allied hospitals foresees a surge in cases once universities and other educational institutions open next week.

Dawn, RMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Umer said: “Though the surge will be mild, there is a dire need to adopt safety measures till the arrival of the vaccine.”
Punjab Health Minister Reveals COVID-19 Vaccination Plan
Initially, the vaccine would be administered to frontline healthcare workers followed by people aged above 65 years.

While speaking with media outlets at the Rawalpindi Institute of Urology, the Health Minister revealed that Pakistan is awaiting results of the Coronavirus vaccine trials that were held in partnership with the WHO and Gavi in the country.
As per the agreed policy, by the end of April, WHO and Gavi will provide the vaccine for 20% population of Pakistan, the Minister added.
Besides, all medical services at the Rawalpindi Institute of Urology will be reopened on 15 February subject to the Coronavirus situation at the time.
