The birds are believed to be nesting locally presenting the possibility of breeding here for the first time in 300 years );   ); There was wonderful news last week when it was revealed that a pair of common cranes had been spotted near Lough Boora and had started nesting, presenting the possibility of breeding in Ireland for the first time in three hundred years. It s being theorised that the ongoing regeneration of the midland raised bogs is the reason for this exciting  occurrence, because new habitats are being created which are attracting species to the region.

Anger over Lough Boora bike rental spills on to the airwaves on Liveline Reporter: );   ); The anger and public outcry over the bike rental license for Lough Boora Parklands has spilled on to the national airwaves.  On Wednesday s programme on RTE 1, people from the area took to the airwaves to defend Pat Barrett who set up the bike rental in Lough Boora 11 years ago.  Pat set up the business from scratch but after a tendering process last year, the license has been given to Phoenix Bikes, a company run by Dublin footballer Conal Keaney. The local man found out last Friday that he had lost the license.

Pictures: Lough Boora Rent-a-Bike and Sportsfile );   ); A COMPANY run by Dublin hurling and football star Conal Keaney has won the contract to run the bike hire service at Lough Boora. The decision by Bord na Mona to select the Dublin company at the expense of local man Pat Barrett has sparked outrage around Offaly. Pat Barrett, a resident of Lumcloon, had been running the bike hire business at Lough Boora Discovery Park for 11 years but learned last week that his tender to continue in operation had not been successful.
