He is virtually cycling the distance from Leyland to Malta and back to raise money for Lancashire Teaching Hospital’s Charity. Graham Swarbrick was admitted to the Critical Care Unit at the Royal Preston Hospital on 24th January 2021 after he tested positive for the virus and was experiencing difficulties with his breathing.

Women in South Cumbria urged not to ignore symptoms of ovarian cancer

PEOPLE in South Cumbria and Lancashire are being urged to be alert to the warning signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. Every year in the UK, 7,300 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer – that’s 20 per day. A 2020 report from North West Cancer Research found that in Lancashire, ovarian cancer is 10 per cent higher than the national average. Ovarian cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in women. It mainly affects women who have been through the menopause, but it can affect women of all ages. Urging people to speak to their GP if they have any of the signs of symptoms of ovarian cancer, Dr Neil Smith, local GP and primary care director for Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Alliance, said: “Your GP can ​assess you and perhaps run some simple tests to better understand your symptoms.

NO more coronavirus-related deaths in Lancashire, according to figures THERE have been no more coronavirus related deaths at hospitals in East Lancashire according to latest figures. The statistics are from the past two days for the East Lancashire Hospitals Trust which runs the facilities at the Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley Hospital. It means that the total number of people who have died from COVID-19 at the Trust facilities since the start of the pandemic is 1,003. Elsewhere, there were also no deaths yesterday in the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust, Blackpool Teaching Hospitals Trust and Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals Trust. In fact, there were only nine deaths in the North West yesterday as part of a total of 90 people nationally, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died.
