Newchurch Road, Bacup A man has been arrested after an eight-year-old boy was seriously injured in an alleged hit and run. Police were called to Newchurch Road, Bacup at 6.35pm on Thursday (June 24) to reports an eight-year-old boy on a toy scooter had been struck by a grey BMW while on a crossing. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop at the scene. A 34-year-old man from Bacup has now been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and aggravated vehicle taking. He is currently in custody. The boy, who is from Bacup, was taken to Manchester Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.
