Road stop in Bexley halts illegal waste carriers Environment Agency and partners check licences and transfer notes. From: 27 May 2021 Environment Agency officers worked with police and Bexley council to check waste carrying vehicles in the town Environment Agency officers, working with London Borough of Bexley, the Met Police and Openreach, were out in Bexley. They were checking vehicles carrying waste or vehicles that routinely carry waste as part of their business, to make sure their paperwork was in order. The Environment Agency was inspecting vehicles to check they had a valid waste carrier’s licence. They also checked they had a required waste transfer note describing what waste they were carrying, where they picked the waste up from and where they were taking it to.

Cumbria County Council appoints new chief executive A new chief executive has been appointed by Cumbria County Council. The authority has today offered the role to Gill Steward. The recommendation to appoint is still subject to formal agreement by Cumbria County Council at its full council meeting next month. Once agreed, Gill will take over from the existing chief executive, Katherine Fairclough, and is expected to start her new role in early August. Cumbria County Council said: “Gill is an experienced and skilled public sector leader. She has worked at chief executive and executive director level. Currently chair of the CLES, a leading economic think tank, her recent roles include chief executive for the London Borough of Bexley and Interim chief executive at West Sussex County Council.
