New surgery facility opens in former emergency care clinic Dr. Yogish Kamath opened his practice of brain and complex spine neurosurgery there July 1. He also does pain management and other procedures. While some procedures are performed at the new facilities, Kamath does brain and spine surgeries at Kell West Hospital. “We do surgeries that are generally not performed by other neurosurgeons here,” Kamath said. He pointed to the case of Malori Maddox, a Lubbock Christian University student who was playing in a volleyball game at Midwestern State in 2015 when she lost her vision due to a brain bleed. She was rushed to Kell West where Kamath happened to be there after hours. He performed surgery and Maddox survived a near-death experience.
