The Lafourche Parish Sheriff s Office has arrested a Cut Off, La man for allegedly stranding a woman and her baby on US 90 in Lafourche Parish.
KATC reports 27-year-old Dillon Terrebonne was taken into custody by the Abbeville Police Department and booked on charges of Domestic Abuse Battery Involving Strangulation and Child Endangerment and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
According to authorities, Terrebonne was driving the woman s vehicle when the two got into an argument. He then reportedly pulled the vehicle over and proceeded to strike and strangle the woman.
Police say the woman was able to free herself and at that point, Terrebonne got back into the woman s vehicle, removed the baby seat and drove away, leaving her and her infant along U.S. Hwy 90 in Raceland.
The unseasonably cold winter weather that swept through last week may not have had as big an impact on Terrebonne and Lafourche as other places in the state, but it was a real danger for the most vulnerable in the community, the homeless.
Early-morning temperatures Feb. 16 of 24 degrees in Houma and 23 in Thibodaux made it the coldest Mardi Gras on record in both cities, according to Weather Underground.
Both Terrebonne and Lafourche law enforcement sought out those without shelter to place them in hotels for the night. In total, 14 people were housed during the below-freezing temperatures that chilled the south around Mardi Gras.
