LAFAYETTE COUNTY RESCINDS MASK ORDER, EFFECTIVE JUNE 1

The Lafayette County Health Department is rescinding the Public Health Mask Order effective at 12:01am, June 1, 2021. Lafayette County sustained a decline in key metrics in seven and 14 day active case average, hospitalizations, and positivity rate. LCHD is also encouraged by the total number of vaccinations administered. Following CDC guidelines, fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance. LCHD will continue to monitor key metric trends, and take appropriate action if our situation warrants. It is strongly encouraged that all eligible citizens to get vaccinated for the COVID-19 virus. No virtual learning option unless under quarantine, masks optional outside Shullsburg School District SHULLSBURG – Due to the intense workload of teachers in the Shullsburg School District having to teach both in-person and virtual students, while also trying to get some of the virtual students help with grades, the Shullsburg School District Board of Education approved 6-1 to have all students in the district return to in-person instruction starting April 19, leaving the virtual learning option open only to those who are in quarantine for COVID-19. Superintendent Mark Lierman stated that teachers have been stressed trying to keep up with teaching double duty with students both in class and online. Some students who are virtual don’t always have connectivity to participate in classes, which causes stress for both student and teacher.

Area schools ready for vaccines LAFAYETTE COUNTY – With about ten percent of all Americans vaccinated for covid so far, the Wisconsin Department of Health anticipates that all staff in public and privates schools will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine starting around March 1. Many of the area schools are working with the Lafayette County Health Department on what steps they need to take to get the vaccines done within their schools. According to Belmont School District superintendent Dr. Wayne Anderson, about 75-80 percent of their staff would get the vaccine as soon as it is offered. “I expect that the number will rise once they see what reactions or lack of reactions occurs with those staff who have been vaccinated,” Anderson said.
