Shooting in east Lafayette leaves 43-year-old dead, one injured
One person was killed and another injured after a shooting on East Simcoe Street.
Lafayette police officers were called at about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday to shots fired in the 1800 block of East Simcoe Street. When they arrived, officers found a man, later identified as 43-year-old Robert Hebert, who had been shot, according to a release from department spokesperson Sr. Cpl. Bridgette Dugas.
Hebert was taken to a local hospital where he later died. Officers were told about a second person, likely a bystander, who also was shot.
That person was taken to a local hospital by someone before officers arrived. The victim suffered a non-life-threatening injury and was later released from the hospital, Dugas said.
43-year-old Robert Hebert of Lafayette is dead following a shooting Wednesday afternoon in a neighborhood in the 1800 block of E. Simcoe Street.
According to a press release from Lafayette Police, officers responded to the scene around 6:40 PM to find Hebert suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.

A second victim believed to be a bystander was also shot. That victim s injury was non-life threatening and that person has been released from the hospital.
There is no information on a suspect at this time.

Lafayette Police are investigating three separate weekend shootings, including one that left a man dead.
Police were called at about 2 p.m. Sunday to shots fired in the 100 block of Ambroise Street, which is near North Pierce Street. When they arrived, officers found 19-year-old Nakia Solomon, who had been shot, department spokesperson Sr. Cpl. Bridgette Dugas said in a release.
The Breaux Bridge man was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Officers also were called at about 1 p.m. Sunday at the 100 block of Hebert Road, which is near Dulles Drive in west Lafayette. Officers were told a man had been shot by an unknown person.
