LISTEN: LCG Launching New Little League The Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department will soon launch the all-new Greater Lafayette Little League. This league will provide children between the ages of 4 and 18 in northern Lafayette Parish, St. Martin, St. Landry, and Acadia Parishes the opportunity to play baseball and softball on a competitive level. Lafayette Parks and Recreation programs manager Walter Guillory joined Bernadette Lee and Ian Auzenne on Monday s edition of Acadiana s Morning News to discuss the program and the opportunities it will provide Acadiana children.

Trio of appointments mark council meeting with new judge, PTC Committee

Three names topped the list of appointments at Tuesday’s Lafayette city and parish council meetings as a new administrative judge was sworn in and two people were appointed to Lafayette’s new Protect the City Committee.  Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory announced the appointment of a new administrative judge at Tuesday’s meeting, appointing former Democratic 15th Judicial District Judge Candidate Travis Broussard to lead Lafayette Consolidated Government’s new Administrative Adjudication Bureau.  Broussard, who is a partner at Durio, McGoffin, Stagg and Ackerman in Lafayette and helped defend the effort to split Lafayette’s former City-Parish Council into two councils in court in 2019, said he wants the bureau to be a more efficient way for LCG to handle municipal code violations than going through the Lafayette City Court or the 15th Judicial District Court.

The grant will help LUS establish fiber connections to businesses along the  U.S. 90 corridor in those areas to help them transition to the current economy during the COVID-19 pandemic. The grant was facilitated through the  Acadiana Planning Commission. Work on the project is expected to begin later this spring and take 18-24 months to complete, officials said.
