Former Lafayette City Marshal Brian Pope released from prison

Pope was released from LaSalle Detention Center on March 7, the prison confirmed. He was released early after earning good behavior credit.  Pope was sentenced to one year in jail after being found guilty in October 2018 by a Lafayette Parish jury for using city marshal money to hire attorneys for personal use. As part of his sentencing, Pope also must serve 240 hours of community service. He must pay $1,500 in fines and court fees, and pay $11,700 in restitution. Pope was removed from his post as city marshal in October by a judge just minutes after he tried to resign from the office via email.
