Guillory Not in Favor of Lafayette Mask Mandate
Apparently, Lafayette-Mayor President Josh Guillory feels differently on the subject. Let me be clear here, Mayor-President Guillory is not saying don t wear a face mask. He wears one when he is supposed to wear it and when the mask isn t necessary he doesn t. But based on comments he made at a Thursday night meeting in Lafayette he doesn t feel the need for the local government to step in and force the issue.
Here are Guillory s words, as reported by KATC Television, from the Thursday night meeting of the Acadiana Patriots.
When I m sitting right there and I m around folks, it s my duty, my personal duty under a world pandemic, I m going to choose to wear a mask and that s what I do and that s why I carry it around. I don t need the government to tell me that and you don t either.
Lafayette Council Members Plan to Revive Mask Mandate Ordinance
Probably the most enduring symbol of the coronavirus pandemic will be the face mask. Not only has the face mask or face covering been a confusing issue for many, but it s also become a hot button political issue too.
Those who support the masks say they help inhibit the spread of coronavirus. Those who don t care for the masks are less about the actual mask and more about their personal choice as to wear one or not.
Two Lafayette City Council members are reviving their efforts to have a mask mandate passed in Lafayette Parish. Councilman Glen Lazard and Councilwoman Nanette Cook are reportedly planning a push for a mask mandate in the coming days and weeks. By the way, Leslie Turk of
Guillory gives Napier key to city, speaks to Cajuns ahead of bowl game

Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory gave Louisiana head football coach Billy Napier the key to the City of Lafayette Wednesday.
The honor was given to Napier for guiding the Cajuns to a Sun Belt Conference championship this season.
Guillory also addressed the team during their practice, ahead of the Cajuns traveling to Dallas for this weekend s bowl game. As the team looked on, Guillory read the official proclamation declaring the team Sun Belt Champions.
Louisiana and Coastal Carolina were set to face off for the Sun Belt title on December 19, but the game was canceled due to COVID-19 cases in Coastal Carolina s program. As a result, both teams were named Co-Champions.
