LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - On May 1, residents gathered outside the Brown Street United Methodist Church for a walking tour of the Historic Jeff neighborhood. From 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tours were guided through various historic stops. Brochures were sold to help cover the cost of maintenance for the church, which was recently designated a historic building.
LAFAYETTE, Ind. Long before COVID-19 challenged downtown eateries to transform their approach to serving guests, a landscape class at Purdue University researched an approach gaining appeal in larger urban areas.
Five years before the pandemic, the Purdue students looked at how downtown Lafayette eateries could utilize parking spaces outside their front doors by creating outdoor seating. Streateries, as they were coined, sounded like a good idea at the time, said Lafayette planner and project manager Margy Deverall.
The first reading of a resolution to allow streateries and parklets public spaces created for visitors to sit, snack, sip coffee, hang out and enjoy the downtown experience was presented at last week s City Council meeting.
