PTI MPA Chohan arrested on Shahzad Akbar’s complaint

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Nazir Chohan, a loyalist of party leader Jahangir Tareen, was taken into police custody on Tuesday over a criminal complaint brought by Prime Minister’s aide on accountability Shahzad Akbar. He was later granted bail.
Chohan was arrested near the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Plaza in connection with the first information report (FIR) registered by Akbar at a Lahore police station over controversial remarks the lawmaker allegedly made about the adviser, which the latter alleged put his life in danger. Shahzad Akbar alleged the offence had been committed to cause injury to the reputation, body, property and mind of the applicant and cause hatred in public at large towards the applicant, the FIR said. The complaint claims Chohan “committed the offence with the nefarious design”.
He was however granted bail by a judicial magistrate later in the day.
Racecourse police arrested Chohan from the office of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) where he had gone to see its director general.
Later, the police presented the MPA before a judicial magistrate at the Cantonment Courts and sought his physical remand. The investigating officer stated that custody of the suspect was required for the verification of his video clip and voice.
The magistrate, however, observed that the offences mentioned in the FIR were bailable.
The magistrate allowed post-arrest bail to Chohan subject to furnishing bail bonds of Rs100,000.
