Security has been beefed up in strategic locations in Asaba, Delta State as the 17 governors of southern Nigeria hold their meeting today.
The police have barricaded the road leading to the government house (Summit road) in the state capital while visitors to the government house are thoroughly checked.
Attacks on police assets and the killing of policemen in the Southeast and Southsouth as well as kidnapping are likely to top the agenda of the meeting.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Olise Ifeajika, said that almost all the governors are expected to arrive the state today (Tuesdays).

As Nigerians join the rest of the world to mark the 2021 Eid-el Fitri, which signifies the end of Ramadan fasting, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has urged Nigerians to continue praying for peace, security and economic stability of the country.
In a Salah message, the Director General of NOA, Dr. Garba Abari urged the Muslim Ummah to hold unto the lessons of selflessness, discipline and piety from the just concluded month of Ramadan to strengthen their faith as well as pray for peace, security and economic stability of our dear nation.

Governor, Samuel Ortom of Benue State has called for sustained prayers to end insecurity in the country.
Ortom in his Eid ul-Fitr message said that he believed that with prayers and commitment on the part of government and the people, the wave of killings, kidnappings, herdsmen attacks and banditry will be surmounted.
In the message issued by the Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, the governor said that the peace, security and unity of the country must be placed above personal and sectional interests, as keeping Nigeria safe and united is a task for all its citizens.

The Olu of Warri-designate, Prince ‘Tsola Emiko, son of Atuwatse II, on Monday, proceeded on 90-day compulsory seclusion ahead of his official coronation.
The 90-day compulsory seclusion otherwise known in Itsekiri as Idànikèñ or Daniken is part of the traditional pre-coronation rites for the installation of Emiko as the 21st Olu of Warri.
The Itsekiri kingdom is usually under the Olori-Ebi (regent), a position currently occupied by Prince Emmanuel Okotie-Eboh, in the absence of an Olu.
Thirty-seven-year-old Prince Emiko was unveiled as the 21st Olu-designate following the announcement of the death of the 20th Olu, Ogiame Ikenwoli.
The Olu-designate holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies and Political Science as well as a Master’s in Management.
