The Kano State Fire Service has said that the state lost 12 lives and property worth over N17.6million destroyed in fire incidents recorded in the state in April.
This was just as the agency attributed most of the fire incidents to road accidents, careless handling of cooking gas and the use of inferior electrical appliances.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the service, a copy of which was made available on Tuesday to pressmen in Kano, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi.
According to him, the service, however, saved many lives and property worth N423 million within the period under review.
The mother of a man allegedly detained by the defunct Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad in December 2006 is asking the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on SARS-related matters, for adequate compensation as she has been searching for him since then.
The 80-year old witness while concluding her evidence on Tuesday, said her son, Abayomi Egbaiyeyomi was arrested two days after the christening of his son and that she has been handling the upkeep of the boy since his mother left him with her about seven years ago.
Titi Agnes began her testimony in April on how police officers stopped her son on his way to work in December 2006. She said she last saw him days later in custody chained on both hands and legs.

The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, has given Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Mr Danladi Umar, two weeks to prepare his defence against alleged assault.
The Committee pronouncement was sequel to a request by Mr Umar for two weeks to study the petition against him and prepare his defence.
Timzing Ramnap, counsel to a security guard, Clement Sagwak, had petitioned the Senate over an alleged assault of the latter.
Addressing Mr Umar who appeared before the Committee, on Tuesday, its Chairman, Senator Ayo Akinyelure while granting the request insisted that the Chairman of the CCT must appear, on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, to defend himself.

In his desperate move to cement a mutual relationship between the herders and farmers in Iwo, Osun State, the Paramount Ruler of Iwoland, HRM Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi has fixed 18, May 2021 for a summit between the two groups.
The monarch who made this known in a statement in Osogbo explained that the summit was to ensure a harmonious relationship and bring a lasting solution to Herders-Farmers clashes in the town and its environs.
He stressed that the session would hold at Oluwo’s Palace Square in the town and listed those expected to be at the occasion as all traditional rulers in Iwoland, the Fulanis, farmers and stakeholders.
