Dr. Rose McCloskey, nursing and health sciences professor, said the environment is set up with equipment including mannequins that serve as patients. “The lab is designed to mimic a typical double resident room in a long-term care facility along with the shared washrooms, tub spaces and hallways,” McCloskey said, ” and this is a space where we are going to be able to conduct research. It’s equipped with technology so it will allow us to control the environment and to really monitor and track data,”.

Long-term care simulation lab created in N B to help learn about spread of viruses in facilities

SAINT JOHN, N.B. New Brunswick’s first ever long-term care simulation lab has officially opened in Saint John, giving researchers the chance to learn more about the spread of viruses - like COVID-19 - in long-term care facilities, and how to help prevent them. The newly-renovated research space is located in Loch Lomond Villa in Saint John, N.B. The lab has been built to replicate a typical double-resident room with a shared bathroom, tub facility and hallways. “In a simulated environment, you can control everything that happens,” says Rose McCloskey, nursing professor and the leader of the University of New Brunswick project. “We can introduce the variables we want to study, we can control things that we want to study, and so that’s one of the benefits of a simulated environment.”

Virtual Fundraiser Cooks Up Dinner For Two

Mise En Place set up (Submitted) Saint John Ale House chef and owner Jesse Vergen and fellow restauranteur Peter Stoddart are teaming up for Mise En Place, a live virtual cooking event for the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation. Cathy Taylor, Executive Director of the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation, says people participating in the February 26 event will be sent all the ingredients for dinner and dessert for two in an insulated cooler bag, along with a bottle of wine and the link to the live cooking class hosted by Vergen and Stoddart. Taylor adds the fundraiser is an opportunity for both the hospitality industry and long-term care community, two sectors hit hard by Covid-19, to think outside of the box and work together to support each other while raising funds for the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation.
