Man jailed following ‘appalling episode’ in Mohill

An altercation between neighbours in Mohill resulted in three people appearing before Carrick- on-Shannon District Court last week.
The court heard that in the course of the altercation there was “an uncivilised attack” with a hurley and a knife being produced by two of the parties.
After hearing the evidence, Judge Kevin Kilrane described it as “an appalling episode” and remarked that the people involved are strangers and “wherever they came from, they came with trouble.”
Appearing in court were Christopher Murray, 25 Cappagh, Mohill who pleaded guilty to threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour, and producing an article, a knife, capable of inflicting serious injury, on July 31, 2020 at 38 Cappagh, Mohill.

A man charged with a public order offence, who was in breach of his Circuit Court bail conditions, has been fined €250 with three months to pay.
Eamon Stokes, 44 Cluain na Sibhe, Killashee, Co Longford, appeared before last week’s sitting of Longford District Court on foot of a bench warrant, executed by Gda Karl Foley.
Gda Foley explained that there were a number of bail conditions entered into on November 29, 2020, and that gardaí carried out a number of curfew checks, finding that Mr Stokes was not present at his home on several dates between December and January.

At Longford District Court, Judge Seamus Hughes has refused jurisdiction in the case of three people involved in an alleged false personal injuries claim following a road accident which occurred in 2018.
Janis Bukks, 1 Mostrim Oaks, Edgeworthstown, Co Longford Kristina Mieliauskaite, 34 Oliver Plunkett Street, Mullingar, Co Westmeath, and Diana Jakubovskaja, Apartment 6, Cúirt An Óir, Athlone Road, Longford appeared at last Tuesday’s sitting of Longford District Court.
Giving evidence last week, Gda Denise Dockery explained that in 2018, Mr Bukks was involved in a road accident and there were two personal injury claims made through his insurance company.

Longford man fined for banging on doors while intoxicated

A man with 84 previous convictions has been convicted and fined €350 for a public order offence in February of last year.
Stephen Maguire, 29 Breadin Street, Drogheda, Co Dundalk, appeared at last week’s sitting of Longford District Court charged with public order.
Gda Ronan Duffy explained to the court that gardaí had received reports shortly after 11pm on February 10, 2020, of a male causing a disturbance at Lana Aoibheann, Longford.
When gardaí arrived, they observed the man who was highly intoxicated and banging on the doors of houses.
“His speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet and couldn’t compose sentences,” Gda Duffy explained.
