Miracle dog Alfonso almost ready for adoption after Detroit River island rescue Minnah Arshad, Detroit Free Press © Provided by the Woodhaven Animal Hospital Dr. Lucretia Greear, owner and veterinarian at the Woodhaven Animal Hospital worked with staff members on a one-year-old dog that became stuck in the middle of the Detroit River on Wednesday was rescued Saturday afternoon. The dog is getting medical attention and got a haircut Saturday afternoon as it recovers at the facility. Alfonso, the dog found stranded on the ice in Detroit River, will soon be ready for adoption, Woodhaven Animal Hospital announced Saturday.  Also nicknamed Miracle, he was released from hospitalization and will be fostered until his patient care is done, in about two weeks, the clinic said.
