St. Landry Parish authorities rescued 11 dogs from a puppy mill that was connected to a home where 175 dogs were rescued the week before, authorities said.
The St. Landry Parish Sheriff s Office and St. Landry Parish Animal Control searched the property Thursday night and found the dogs in a barn. The property is connected to the home where 175 dogs were found in untenable conditions, said animal shelter director Terri Courvelle.
Although they only found 11 dogs that were all seized for assessment, Courvelle said she thinks there may have been more that were moved before authorities arrived. You could tell it was set up for many dogs hundreds and hundreds of animals, she said. There were kennels, there were wooden ramps with wooden dog houses built with holes, no hay, not straw no bedding, towels, blankets.
