A sense of relief washed over Ella Niblock upon hearing the news that her high school was closed due to COVID-19. As much as I love the social aspects of everything and I m involved in multiple things at the school and extracurricular activities like, some things are just not worth the risk of it, said Ella, a Grade 11 student at Holy Spirit High in Conception Bay South.
The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District is suspending in-class instruction for all schools in the St. John’s metro area as well as Bell Island, Mobile and Witless Bay along with extracurricular activities for all schools across the province.
It s at our doorstep : 15 schools in St. John s area closed due to COVID-19
The province s English school district has closed 12 schools to in-class learning in the metro region, as has the French high school and two private schools.

The mother of a child at the centre of a child abuse trial in St. John s says she doesn t want school principal Robin McGrath to return to his job, regardless of the judge s acquitting him on all charges.
The woman cannot be named, as there is a publication ban on anything that could identify her child.
McGrath, a K-7 school principal in Conception Bay South, was accused of pinching her child s ear, grabbing his face while yelling at him, and shoving him through an open doorway.
