Some householders hoping for a return of utilities by today may have to wait a bit longer in the aftermath of Hurricane Elsa.
Electricity, water, and telecoms heads yesterday gave updates on progress in restoring service but not all the news was good during a press conference between Government and private sector leaders at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
Managing director of Barbados Light & Power (BL&P) Roger Blackman said 200 poles have to be replaced along with 45 transformers and a kilometre of wire restrung, but the company was hoping that by the end of yesterday 65 per cent of their customers would have back service.

In the space of 24 hours the damage toll to homes in Barbados in the aftermath of Hurricane Elsa has risen from just 177 to 1 178 thus far.
This is according to the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), whose director, Kerry Hinds, revealed that this tally was likely to go up in the coming days as more data is being received from the field.
