What to know about COVID antibody treatments
LANSING – Medical professionals say an underutilized COVID-19 treatment could lessen the toll the virus is taking on Michigan.
Monoclonal antibody treatment is designed to treat patients who tested positive for coronavirus and have mild to moderate symptoms, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
Dr. Paul Entler, Sparrow’s vice president of quality and performance improvement, said studies have shown the treatment is 80%-85% effective to prevent severe illness.
“It’s probably a grossly underutilized treatment out there,” Entler said.
The monoclonal antibody treatment received emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration in November.
