Nearly a year after the West Hollywood City Council approved the creation of a drag laureate, staff for the Southern California LGBTQ enclave have etched out a proposal for how to launch the position this November. It will be the first such representative for drag performers and LGBTQ nightlife issues established by a U.S. municipality.
San Francisco may become the second, as the idea is under discussion by City Hall officials and could be brought forward later this year. As the Bay Area Reporter has previously noted, the concept of having an ambassador for the local drag community was first proposed in the draft version of San Francisco s groundbreaking LGBTQ+ Cultural Heritage Strategy released in 2018.

WEST HOLLYWOOD The city of West Hollywood which was slated to implement a “Smoke-Free Housing Ordinance,” which bans smoking tobacco in citywide multi-family dwellings, to take in effect in March 1, 2021 is being re-considered by the City Council.
According to the city of West Hollywood website, in 2011, the city prohibited smoking tobacco in outdoor and dining areas. In 2016, West Hollywood adopted the “Tobacco Retail License Ordinance” to ensure tobacco retailers comply with sale of tobacco and bans sale of all tobacco to minors. In 2021, the use of coupons and discounts for tobacco was prohibited, smoking any flavored tobacco was prohibited, and on September 15, 2021 the sale of flavored will be prohibited.

WEST HOLLYWOOD The city of West Hollywood is inviting the public to a free virtual educational training to discuss issues pertaining to human trafficking to assist participants in helping support and advocate for victims.
According to a press release from the city of West Hollywood, the Human Trafficking Community Training will take place on Tuesday, March 23, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. via a Zoom webinar; the training is open to the public, but registration is required to attend.
Training will be led by Dawn Schiller, an expert survivor-leader in the anti-trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual assault movements, who previously provided trainings for a similar topic for West Hollywood. Schiller provides firsthand insight to community advocates on survivorship, education, and service to others. She is a national speaker, educator, consultant, and author.
