CANTON A 21-year-old was convicted by jury on drug charges Thursday, July 29 in St. Lawrence County Court.
Jay McKinney Jr. was convicted after trial for third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (Class B felony), fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (Class D felony), and second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor).
Sentencing is set for Sept. 21, said a press release from the St. Lawrence County District Attorney, Gary Pasqua.
The convictions carry a maximum sentence of 9 years in state prison, the district attorney said.
The charges stemmed from an incident on the night of March 28, 2020 when McKinney was found to possess more than 500 milligrams of cocaine and drug packaging materials consistent with sale of cocaine.
