Man killed in Hermon accident, vehicle submerged in Elm Creek

Tuesday, May 11, 2021 - 10:47 am HERMON State police are investigating a fatal accident Sunday after a vehicle overturned in Elm Creek, according to state police. Ryan L. Wood, 42, of Edwards found dead inside the vehicle, which was submerged in four-feet of water on May 9 at 7:29 a.m., officers said. State police said the vehicle was on its roof, partially submerged in the water. A preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was traveling south on County Route 21 when it exited the west shoulder of the roadway. It then struck a guiderail, ran down a sloped embankment, struck a large rock and rolled into the creek.

Edwards man dead after vehicle crashes into creek in Hermon

HERMON — An Edwards man died over the weekend after apparently driving off County Route 21 and overturning into Elm Creek. State police identified the sole occupant of the vehicle on Sunday morning as Ryan L. Wood, 42, and St. Lawrence County Coroner Joseph White authorized removal to Canton-Potsdam Hospital where an autopsy is pending. Through a preliminary investigation, police have determined Mr. Wood was traveling south on County Route 21, exited the road on the west side, struck a guide rail and descended a sloped embankment before hitting a large rock and rolling over into the creek. Police said the vehicle came to a rest on its roof and was submerged in about four feet of water.

Gouverneur woman killed in Friday crash in Canton

CANTON — A 30-year-old Gouverneur woman was killed in a Friday afternoon accident on Route 11 in the town of Canton. State police said a vehicle operated by Sally T. Dingsoyr, 85, of Potsdam, was northbound and entered the southbound lane of travel, into the path of a vehicle operated by Amanda E. Perry, 30, of Gouverneur. They said Ms. Perry attempted to avoid a collision and swerved to the north shoulder of the roadway, but the two vehicles collided. St. Lawrence County Coroner Joseph White pronounced Ms. Perry dead at the scene and authorized the removal of her body to Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where an autopsy is scheduled for today.
