A GOLDEN Gourock couple are living well with dementia thanks to the support of Alzheimer Scotland services in Inverclyde. To mark Dementia Awareness Week, which runs until June 6, the Tele spoke to Gourock couple John and Margaret Lowe. John has been caring for Margaret since she was diagnosed with the condition in 2014. The couple, who will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary later this year, say that the help provided by Alzheimer Scotland in Inverclyde - alongside the love and support they get from friends and family - helps them to tackle any challenges they face. John, 72, said he suspected Margaret had the condition but it took a while to get this confirmed.
INVERCLYDE Royal is set for a £1.85m theatre revamp to create a centre of excellence in orthopaedics. NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde say a design team has been appointed to carry out a refit, with the upgrading of two wards to support the new activity. This follows a decision in 2019 to send the most seriously ill trauma patients to new units set up at Paisley s RAH and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, with the removal of emergency orthopaedics at Inverclyde. The IRH will instead be used to carry out elective orthopaedic surgery, with the A&E remaining open for all other cases.
A DISTRICT nurse has become the first frontline worker to get the Covid-19 jab locally as the fightback against the virus begins. Carol Connelly, a care home liaison nurse, has looked after the most vulnerable patients during the pandemic and is desperate to play her part. NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde are rolling out their mass vaccination programme with up to 300 staff inoculated yesterday. A huge logistical operation was in full swing at the Larkfield Unit, with all hands on deck. Immediately after her vaccination Carol spoke to the Tele. She said: I am smiling under my mask! It was just like the flu vaccination, I didn t feel a thing.
